Balanced Rear Braking for Heavy Loads
This Rotora HD Challenge kit upgrades the rear brakes on 2011-2019 Ram 1500 Classic (DS chassis) trucks with a 4-piston caliper and a larger 355x32mm 2-piece rotor. Matching the rear brakes to a bigger front kit keeps braking balance even under a loaded bed, trailer, or heavy tow package. The kit arrives complete with pads, lines, and brackets for a straightforward bolt-on rear brake upgrade.

FAQ
What is the HDRamDS-355×32.01?
The HDRamDS-355×32.01 is the Rotora HD Challenge rear big brake kit built for the 2011-2019 Ram 1500 Classic. It pairs a 4-piston RG403 caliper with a 355x32mm 2-piece rotor for improved heat capacity and rear stopping power over the stock rear brakes.
Should I install this rear kit with a matching front kit?
Pairing a rear upgrade with a compatible front kit helps keep braking balance consistent, but this rear kit can also be installed on its own with the factory front brakes.
Does this kit work with the factory parking brake?
Yes. This rear kit retains compatibility with the factory drum-in-hat or integrated parking brake setup used on the DS chassis Ram 1500 Classic.
Does this kit work with the factory ABS system?
Yes. The kit retains the stock ABS sensor and tone ring, so the factory anti-lock braking system continues to function normally after installation.
What is the difference between slotted and drilled rotors?
Slotted rotors clear gas and debris from the pad surface and hold up well under sustained heavy loads. Drilled rotors offer similar cooling benefits with a different look, though they see slightly more wear under extreme towing duty.
Do I need new pads with this kit?
No. HD graphite-metallic pads matched to the rotor and caliper are included in every kit, so there is nothing extra to buy for the initial installation.
Can I run this kit on a truck used for towing?
Yes. This kit is built for the added mass and heat load of towing and hauling, with a larger rear rotor and stronger caliper than the factory rear brakes.
What caliper colors are available?
This kit is available in 10 caliper finishes including zinc, red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, blue, silver, black, and white.
Installation Instructions
- Raise and support the rear of the truck, then remove the rear wheels.
- Remove the factory caliper, bracket, and rotor from each rear hub.
- Install the included S45C caliper bracket onto the factory hub using the provided hardware.
- Mount the new 355x32mm 2-piece rotor onto the hub.
- Install the RG403 caliper and included HD graphite-metallic pads onto the bracket.
- Connect the new stainless steel braided brake line to the caliper and existing hard line.
- Bleed the brake system at each caliper until fluid runs clear of air.
- Reinstall the wheels, torque to spec, and bed in the new pads with gradual stops before normal driving.
