A 2-Inch Front Leveling Kit with Upper Control Arms for 4WD Ram 1500 Trucks

This is the Zone Offroad D70N, a 2-inch front leveling kit for 2019-2021 Ram 1500 4WD trucks that pairs poly strut spacers with new Adventure Series upper control arms. The control arms reposition the upper ball joint so it stays within its designed operating range at the increased ride height, which a strut spacer alone cannot maintain.

Key Features

  • Zone Offroad D70N combination strut spacer and Adventure Series upper control arm kit for 2 inches of front lift.
  • Boxed, fully welded upper control arms with an indexed ball joint cup that keeps the ball joint in its normal operating range at ride height.
  • Poly strut spacers with bolt-head-retaining preload rings and additional preload rings per side.
  • Opens up clearance for 295/65R20 tires with 5-inch backspacing or 33×12.50 tires with 4.5-inch backspacing.
  • Backed by Zone Offroad’s limited lifetime warranty on hard parts.

The Zone Offroad D70N is a 4WD-only application for the new-body Ram 1500 and does not fit the Ram 1500 Classic/DS body, Ram 1500 RHO, or Ram 1500 TRX, which use different front suspension. The kit is not compatible with factory air-ride suspension or Bilstein leveling struts. Factory wheels and tires cannot be reinstalled after installation due to clearance at the upper ball joint.

About Zone Offroad

Zone Offroad builds suspension lift and leveling systems for trucks and SUVs. The D70N pairs a strut spacer with Adventure Series upper control arms so the ball joint keeps its normal range of motion at 2 inches of lift instead of relying on the factory arm alone.

FAQ

What is the D70N?

It is a 2-inch front leveling kit that pairs a strut spacer with new upper control arms to level 4WD Ram 1500 trucks while keeping the upper ball joint in its normal operating range.

Why does this kit include upper control arms instead of just a spacer?

The added ride height pushes the factory upper ball joint past its normal operating range. The included control arms reposition the ball joint so it stays within range at the new ride height.

Can I keep my factory wheels and tires with this kit installed?

No. Clearance at the upper ball joint means factory wheels and tires cannot be reinstalled. Plan for 295/65R20 with 5-inch backspacing or 33×12.50 tires with 4.5-inch backspacing.

Can I combine this kit with Bilstein leveling struts?

No. Do not use this kit with Bilstein leveling struts or any other form of suspension lift.

Is this kit different for Rebel or Off-Road Package trucks?

Yes. Rebel and Off-Road Package trucks use 2 of the 3 provided preload rings per strut instead of all 3.

Do I need special tools to install this kit?

Yes. A ball-joint separation tool and a strut compressor are required, along with standard hand tools, a floor jack, and jack stands.

What torque do the upper control arm ball joint nuts require?

26 ft-lbs plus an additional 180 degrees using a new crown nut and cotter pin. Do not loosen the nut to align the cotter pin.

Is an alignment needed after installation?

Yes, a front-end alignment is required after installation, and headlight aim should be rechecked as well.

What is the warranty on this kit?

Zone Offroad backs hard parts with a limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser for as long as they own the vehicle it was installed on.

Installation Instructions

  1. Raise and support the front of the truck, remove the wheels, and disconnect the sway-bar links from the lower control arms.
  2. Separate the upper ball joint and tie-rod end from the steering knuckle using a ball-joint separation tool; do not strike the knuckle with a hammer.
  3. Remove the brake caliper and rotor, disconnect the ABS wire, and remove the strut assembly.
  4. Compress the coil spring with a strut compressor, mark alignment points, and install the strut spacer, preload rings, and 3/4-inch poly top spacer per the included instructions.
  5. Reinstall the strut assembly and attach it to the frame, leaving hardware loose.
  6. Remove the factory upper control arms and install the new Zone Offroad upper control arms with factory hardware.
  7. Reattach the steering knuckle to the new upper control arm with a new crown nut and cotter pin; torque to 26 ft-lbs plus 180 degrees.
  8. Reinstall the brake rotor and caliper, torquing the caliper bracket bolts to 59 ft-lbs plus 55 degrees.
  9. Reattach the tie-rod end and torque to 45 ft-lbs plus 90 degrees.
  10. Torque the upper strut hardware to 40 ft-lbs, the lower strut hardware to 124 ft-lbs, and the upper control-arm hardware to 128 ft-lbs.
  11. Reattach the sway-bar link and torque to 88 ft-lbs, then reinstall the wheels and lower the truck.
  12. Adjust the headlights and perform a front-end alignment. Recheck all hardware torque after 500 miles.
